Because this work was the first one in the binding, the set was mistakenly listed as a single text. We therefore face a previously unknown work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The manuscript <span class=\"\">presents a vision<\/span> of fencing in Portugal&#039;s seventeenth century, integrating elements of Verdadeira Destreza and the common or \u00abvulgar\u00bb tradition. 64 descriptions of <em>feridas<\/em> (techniques) <span class=\"\">with their respective<\/span> counter-techniques. Some of these were previously unknown, such as the\u00a0<em>Parafusada<\/em> or the <em>Ferida do Duque de Alva<\/em>. It also includes comments and <span class=\"\">glosses<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>In order to make the text more accessible, we have translated the original portuguese source into english and spanish; added a glossary and a few reference resources. <span id=\"result_box\" class=\"\" lang=\"en\">The language is accessible <span class=\"\">but<\/span> <span class=\"\">a <\/span><span class=\"\">basic knowledge<\/span> <span class=\"\">of Verdadeira Destreza is necessary<\/span>, for which we advice the reader to build upon Mary and Puck Curtis&#039; essay <em>From the Page to the Practice <\/em>(available as part of <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.freelanceacademypress.com\/intheserviceofmarsvol2.aspx\">In the Service of Mars, vol.
